Hlthcr (sorry didn't have enough cash to buy the vowels)

America... you're getting gRaped by healthcare costs...

It is time to take a stand and talk about health care reform. The current system isn't working. With 40 million + Americans (depending on which talk show/radio show you are listening to) without health care. That's simply unacceptable. Even if you believe in a system without governmental support, shouldn't health care be a real possibly for any individual with a job? Many American are working in positions where they cannot get full time employment, but yet work 35+ hours a week (sometimes working jobs, both of which are not considered full time). So how do we offer these people coverage? If you don't want to hear this sob story, maybe its time to get financial and take a look at how the system in place cripples small and medium businesses, especially those that try and compete against international firms. We are battering our own business with the burdens of cost that are growing to fast for businesses' to absorb them. WE NEED CHANGE. Hopefully my grand reader base can make some suggests and spur some debate on what that change can be. Go.

I agree, we need change. I believe it is like a hologram, and the change of one small particle will result in changes of many particles. I have seen some great things happen, but they are very grass roots. The small city I live in has a free clinic, as many cities do. Ours has a well-known herbalist who is sponsored by a food coop and a credit union to work and give free herbs to his patients. I told my friend about this because she and her husband have a small business but no health insurance. You see, my friend had Polio many years ago and as her symptoms need attention she has nowhere to go to. The couple makes too much for the state or federal assisted programs and not enough to get insurance. And this brings to mind another up close and personal story; about my partner. She is Native American and she gets what most would consider “free” (not really, but that is another subject), healthcare from Tribal Indian Hospitals across the country. But there is not one within 100 miles of here. She fits into the State and Federal assisted programs, so luckily she is taken care of. And because same-sex marriage is still not recognized with most insurance companies, we cannot get a family plan, which I could afford…see Right Wing, if you don’t let us get married what havoc it causes! (LOL). One more thought: as we look to move to another state with other insurance “rules”, I find myself challenged by the decisions of that state. Let me explain; I have diabetes in New York, which by law has to cover pre-existing conditions. So, if I move to New York WITH diabetes it is law that I can still get individual insurance. But I am moving away from New York to a state that is much more conservative and does not accept me into any individual plans that I can find at the moment, because of my pre-existing conditions. So, I will become part of an HMO group plan where it seems my main physician could yea or nea any care I may want or need. It is not even a given that I can see an Endrocrinologist (specialist doctor for diabetes). But, I am sure it is much better than those TV Dateline HMO reports from a few years back that gave HMO’s a bad rap. I will have to let you know. You see, I can afford some of the vowels in Healthcr, but not all.
